City Guide for Fond du Lac, WI

Located at the foot of Lake Winnebago in the east end of Wisconsin, Fond Du Lac features great educational opportunities, a stellar setting to raise a family and some of the inexpensive apartment living in the Midwest.

No, it’s not the Fondue capital of the world (but wouldn't that be nice...), the city actually got its name from its location (French for “the foot of the lake”). And because of its waterfront locale, Fond Du Lac is a huge boating and fishing town (tournaments galore). It is also part of Tree City USA and is as laid-back and un-snooty of a town as any you can imagine.

Fond Du Lac is in no way the “big” city that Milwaukee (its southern neighbor) is, but it doesn’t need that reputation to appeal to people of all ages. College students come here to attend one of the three colleges (Marina University, University of Wisconsin-FDL campus and Moraine Park Tech) and young professionals live here for the easy commute time, job opportunities and inexpensive apartment living.

How inexpensive you ask? Well, let’s just say after looking over our apartment listings, you too will be pretty fond of “Fondy.”

Alright, here’s a little tease:

1 BRs are abundant in FDL, making it easy and affordable to rent on your own. They range between $500and $800 (more expensive for a newer apartment).

If 2 BRs are more your speed, FDL has plenty of those to offer. Expect to pay between $570and $830 for a 2 BR. A word of advice: the further north, even into North FDL, the lower the rents. In North FDL you can grab a 2 BR/1100 sq. ft. apartment for $729 a month. If you have some wiggle room with your budget, opt for life on the golf course, as the more expensive communities are located on the putting green. Amenities aren’t huge in Fond du Lac but most apartments come with either free parking or assigned spots for a small fee ($30).

Making the move with a pet? Fond du Lac has you covered. Most pets are allowed with a deposit—you may want to leave behind the pet monkey or the pet snake—and often a pet interview or monthly pet rent (@ $25).

The cost of living here is about 7% lower than the national average, so we have no doubts that you will find a great inexpensive apartment. Once you’re settled, take some time to enjoy all the Farmer’s Markets, shopping and activities Fond Du Lac has to offer. Don’t put it off any longer, snag your new Fond Du Lac apartment today! What to keep in mind when looking for pet friendly apartments in Fond du Lac, WI

Renting pet-friendly apartments in Fond du Lac should offer peace of mind and convenience for our furry friends. It’s crucial to find an apartment that’ll work for both you and your pet. Before signing a pet-friendly apartment, take your time to study the layout and ask plenty of questions.

Some pet-friendly apartments in Fond du Lac may request a pet deposit or only accept certain dog breeds. You should also consider if the floors are hardwood or carpeted. Hardwood may be easier to clean-up fur and a mess but could mean your neighbors below hear the tapping of your dog running past. An outdoor balcony can also be ideal for a pet who needs some fresh air.

Consider the neighborhood of any pet-friendly apartments in Fond du Lac. Are they near a dog park or a vet? You should also research the rates of dog walkers in your area. It may be less expensive to move to a nearby neighborhood with a lower pet deposit, a better layout for your pet, and cheaper services.
