If you're a fan of The Learning Channel, you may have heard of Laurens, South Carolina. The city was featured in TLC's reality show "Town Haul," where it was given a proper makeover with a park, amphitheater, teen club and barbershop.
Established in 1785, Laurens, S.C., is fittingly the county seat of Laurens County and was aptly named for statesman Henry Laurens. With a 2010-recorded Census population of 9,139, Laurens is included in the Greenville-Mauldin-Easley Metropolitan Statistical Area. A fantastic small city that prides itself on its architecture and history, if a new city makeover seems in order and you're looking to relocate to the beautiful southeast region, Laurens is an ideal place to start anew.

Neighborhoods in Laurens
Laurens has lots of residential properties to offer in distinct neighborhoods, all of which are rich with history and full of charm.
Church District: Two beautifully designed older churches are found within this district: The Church of the Epiphany and Bethel AME Church. Other churches soon joined them, such as Saint Paul First Baptist and The First Presbyterian Church (both designed with Gothic Revival style architecture) and The First United Methodist Church (representative of Romanesque Revival architecture). This district is a visually stunning collection of historic design.
West Main Street District: History lovers will delight in the gorgeous architecture displayed by homes in this district. Among the most noted buildings are the Watts-Todd-Dunklin House, which dates back to 1812, and the Italian villa style Williams-Ball-Copeland House. The Governor Simpson House boasts Greek Revival architecture and other landmarks such as the Charles H. Duckett House and John Calvin Owings House are sure to turn heads. The city also has the Octagon House, which stuns with its geometric uniqueness.
Living in Laurens
Getting around town is simple thanks to Interstates 221 and 76. Laurens is less than 40 miles outside of Greenville via Interstate 385, and two Greyhound stations sit just outside the city. The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport is also under 30 miles away from the city's center, which makes out-of-state travel much more convenient for those on the go.
Get in the mood for an assortment of city-wide festivals. Little River Spring Festival is geared toward all things Easter, with an egg hunt, games, and activities for all ages, while Riverfront Freedom Festival is the city's annual July 4th celebration. Into trick-or-treating? Halloween comes alive at Boo in the Park, and you're sure to score some candy while you're there.
With five city parks and that aforementioned amphitheater, your recreational needs are covered. Little River Park offers putt putt golf and playgrounds, and River Street Park contains an outdoor basketball court for shooting hoops. Laurens City Park has numerous sporting facilities for football, tennis and baseball, while Taylor Park and Ceramtec Park offer beautiful landscapes for taking in nature's scenery. Along that same vein of enjoying the natural beauty the area offers, the outdoor amphitheater seats approximately 3,000 patrons and frequently hosts concerts and city events. Laurens is also situated just outside of the sizable Sumpter National Forest.
