Ever wanted to live on a private island? That dream can become a reality when you move to Fort Myers Beach. Located on gorgeous Estero Island, Fort Myers Beach offers all the joys of beachfront living from your private island paradise.
A relatively new town, Fort Myers Beach, Florida, was incorporated in 1995 and had a population of 6,277 at the 2010 Census. However, the history of Estero Island dates back several thousand years to when it was first inhabited and settled by the Calusa Indians. Initially, Estero Island was a thriving fishing village. However, the island has modernized in the last 60 years and is now a popular tourist destination. Today, Fort Myers Beach has a growing tourism industry and is home to many year-round residents. However, during the summer months, the population can grow into the double digits as families come to enjoy their second residences. You, too, can enjoy the beautiful year-round weather and prime beachfront property with a home in Fort Myers Beach.
Moving to Fort Myers Beach
Let's face it, everyone wants to move to the beach. As a result, finding a single family home or even rental homes in Fort Myers Beach can be a bit of a challenge. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel because many part-time residents rent their properties during the off-peak months. Consequently, if you a new resident to the area, it may be best to consider looking at property rentals prior to making the decision to buy. This will allow you to save more money for a bigger down payment and get to know the area before deciding to buy a home. An influx in new development in Fort Myers Beach has led to many new apartment homes being built along the water. These units go quickly, and you must act fast or risk losing out.
Neighborhoods in Fort Myers Beach
When you live on your own private island, there is really no such thing as a bad or undesirable neighborhood. Because of the proximity to the water, many of the homes feature gorgeous waterfront views and a delightful ocean breeze that can keep the humidity of the summer months at bay. From the friendly neighbors to the helpful shop owners, Fort Myers Beach is the perfect small and charming town in America.
Town Center: If being close to the action is your goal, it's hard to go wrong with the Town Center. Don't expect to find many single family homes in this area, because it can be congested. However, this neighborhood has the largest number of luxury rental apartments.
Palmetto Street: From gorgeous and newly built single family homes to well-established houses with large front yards, Palmetto Street is ideal for a busy family or a recently retired couple.
Bay Beach Lane: Like the name implies, Bay Beach Lane is just steps away from the water. With nearly every home featuring an ocean view, it is hard to find a more perfect neighborhood in all of Fort Myers Beach.
Living in Fort Myers Beach
Although it is an island, Fort Myers Beach is not lacking in shopping or restaurants. However, many residents do like to make the short 20 minute drive to the mainland to have access to more activities and a more bustling night life. Fort Myers is especially popular during March, when baseball teams like the Boston Red Sox have their spring training in the city. Because of the low crime rate, stable housing market and gorgeous weather, Fort Myers Beach receives an impressive livability score of 79. For delicious fresh caught seafood, visit Fresh Catch Bistro before retiring to Heidi's Island Restaurant for a fresh baked good to cap off the night.
