Pet policies differ, meanwhile, from complex to complex, so be sure to do a bit of preliminary research about a rental if you’re roomie walks on all fours. Fortunately, at least a few landlords in Alliance couldn’t care less if their tenants share living space with a cat, dog, fish, antelope, or pack of lemmings. Fortunately, there’s no such thing as an East St. Louis-like danger zone in Alliance, but we still recommend spending plenty of time in the city, getting a feel for its vibes and its residents, before signing a lease.

As far as fun and games go, Alliance is home to more than 200 acres of open space shared by 24 city parks, an eclectic, site-seer-friendly historic district near the Mount Union College campus, and a wide range of eateries, bars, and shopping hotspots. Factor in one of the Midwest’s lowest cost of living rates and some of the sweetest apartment deals you’ll find anywhere, and it’s safe to say you’ll soon be loving life in “Carnation City.”
