Tarboro holds the remains of Civil War general William Dorsey Pender, who was wounded during the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. He is buried at Calvary Churchyard and has given his name to Pender County in North Carolina as tribute to what he accomplished.

City Center: Main Street, located in the downtown area, runs conveniently through the city center, and it's great for a stroll with its old storefronts and beautiful residences. There are plenty of eating options through here as well, such as Bud's Grill, Addie's Main Street Cafe and On the Square.

W Howard Avenue / Western Boulevard: More residential streets exist here, as well as a cinema for catching the latest blockbuster and a McDonald's along Western Boulevard.

Route 33 / E Northern Boulevard: This neighborhood encompasses the north of Tarboro and stretches up beyond to the Tarboro-Edgecombe Airport if you fancy a few flying lessons or a tour of the local area. You'll also find world-class medical facilities here at Vidant Hospital.

Hartsboro / Hartsease: This rural area sits beyond the city with plenty of three- to four-bedroom houses. Being so close to Interstate 95 and U.S. 94 is also pretty helpful, and there are buses that run on various routes through town. In addition, there's a commercial rail service nearby in Rocky Mount which runs a twice-daily service both north and south to the major cities in both directions.
