Looking for a hometown where neighbors live next to each other instead of piled up on top of each other? Well, then this little city in Maine is the perfect pick. Auburn is huge in terms of square mileage, and tiny in terms of population size, giving everyone plenty of room to spread out and enjoy their river valley surroundings. If wide-open spaces are more your thing, look towards Taylor Pond. One of the most popular suburban neighborhoods is around Pettingail Park, where nice sidewalks, safe streets, a couple of shops, and the library are all close by. The library, by the way, is stunning and has a great collection of children's books.
Most of the property rentals are made up of one and two bedroom apartments. Many traditional Main residences have been converted into two and four-unit apartments for those who enjoy the feel of a quaint little house, but only want to pay the price of a cheap one bedroom apartment.
