Living in Attalla
Attalla is a city for drivers. It is convenient if you need to make your way around the southwest of the state, as several major transit routes -- Highway 431, Route 11, and Interstate 59 -- intersect with Attalla. There are a few rural areas that are best accessed by car, and, unfortunately, public transport isn't an option. The nearest Amtrak station is 29 miles away in Anniston, and there is no local bus line. Many residents carpool if they are commuting, so it's worth looking into that to save on fuel. It's also a great way to meet your new neighbors! If you would like a more environmentally-friendly option, the city is relatively easy to navigate on a bicycle.
If you are looking for things to do in the area, Attalla is very community-oriented and has a lot to offer. There is a weekly farmer's market that runs every Thursday from June to September, offering fresh fruit, vegetables, and homemade organic beauty products. If you enjoy bigger events you should attend Second Saturday, a festival for the whole town that is held in April. It features music, rides, and even a car show. Another great day out is Attalla's Heritage Day, held every October downtown. Visitors can enjoy rides, live entertainment, a car show, and a wide range of food stalls.
Another attraction in Attalla is the lovely Wills Creek Golf Course at the country club. The course is semi-private, which means you don't have to be a member to play but you do need to pay for use of the course. In addition to the golf course there are two great parks to explore: Attalla City Park and Siberton Park, both in the southwest of town. The parks are beautifully maintained and great for activities, walks and picnics. Overall, Attalla has a lot to offer. Once you start exploring this city, you won't want to leave!
