The city itself is now well known for its crude oil and strong economy. It has a great southern feel to it and is extremely family friendly. If you're looking for a small southern city than this is it, you don't get much more southern than Cushing does. Cushing has a lot of history, especially ever since the land run of 1891. This was mainly due to an oil boom that happened in the city back in the 1890s when the city was formed. It has been known for many years as the pipeline crossroads as most of the oil in the U.S. passes through Cushing. This gives it a unique and rich history. The city's economy is largely based on this oil passage, and many of the jobs available in the city have to do with the oil companies. Cushing has a little over 7,000 people living in the city, which is an actual decline from the amount of people in the city in the previous census. This means that the city is slowly decreasing in population. The city has a certain small-town feel to it, and it is common for everybody to be friends. As such Cushing is an extremely family friendly environment to live in
Moving To Cushing
The city is small and there are not many new expansions being made so the city has not grown in size or population much over the years. This lack of quick growth has created an environment where there are not a lot of vacant houses. You will still have many houses to choose from, but do not expect brand new houses; most of the houses in Cushing are slightly older. This is great for people who want a vintage house, or something that has already been well taken care of. Make sure to examine the properties closely - you don't want to end up renting a place with any damages or big flaws. In most cases, the landlord will have repairs done before you move in, but make sure to ask!

Neighborhoods of Cushing
Cushing, OK is a smaller city, as such the whole city is considered a neighborhood. The neighborhood itself is extremely laid-back and friendly. Here's a little breakdown of what you'll find here:
South Cushing: South Cushing is very rural with almost all residential properties scattered across the land. It's a super pretty area with mostly single-family homes and very few commercial developments. You'll find the beautiful Memorial Oak Park here and the golf course as well.
North Cushing: The north side of town has big commercial hub along Main STreet, which cuts right through it. This is where you'll find heaps of delicious restaurants, like Boomerang Diner and Taco Mayo along with some local shops and grocery stores. You can find more apartment complexes in addition to single-family homes on this side of town.
Living in Cushing
Living in Cushing is relatively relaxed. The city is close and friendly, and the city likes to get involved in many different projects. The city is a small one, so you can expect to be able to walk to get all of your errands done, and to work if you need to. In fact the average total commute time of workers in Cushing is less than 15 minutes, lower than state average. Most residents work outside the city limits but it is not too hard to find work that is less than a 20-30 minute drive.
With the decreasing population there is a decent job market, though there is not much variety in the jobs that are available within Cushing itself. Most jobs fall into the areas of construction, manufacturing, mining, retail, education, health and medical, and food services. Within the city there is one hospital and another one less than 15 miles away. Cushing has three airports including a small municipal airport and a Heliport for the hospital. There is one small private college in the city- Cutter's Edge School of Cosmetology- but there are at least 5 others within driving distance of the city. There is one high school and 6 elementary/middle schools.
In Cushing, Oklahoma you can enjoy many great features and amenities. There is the public library, Odum Park, two hotels your visitors and guests can stay in, and a few city park areas to enjoy. The city has a few fast food restaurants and a couple shopping areas, but most of the job opportunities lies outside the city limits.
