The first settler in Avon Park was actually a Connecticut man named Oliver Martin Crosby, who moved to the Avon Park area to study wildlife in 1884. People followed him, and eventually, they called their town Lake Forest. Eventually, someone convinced Crosby that the area felt a lot like Stratford-Upon-Avon, so they renamed the city Avon Park. The name stuck, and it's still what we call Avon Park today.
Avon Park is a lovely town located on the Everglades in Florida. It's been home to some pretty notable residents, in addition to its original settler. The town has been home to such people as Hal McRae, an MLB hall-of-famer, Flash Gordon, an MLB pitcher, and Christian historian Conrad Henry Moehlman.
